I am not sure this topic fits in this section of social media, however it looked like the best place to place it.

Do you think a cell phone is a must have to conduct business in today's world or is marketing on a desk

top or lap top enough to be successful?

Hi Phyllis,

I do a lot of work on my cell phone. I can post threads in the forum, post ads, and check my emails to see how much money I have made.  :)

As long as it is a Smart Phone. There is a lot of difference between phones both cell and non cell.

The Smart Phone is more a tablet PC then a phone. I have been using these kinds of devices for years now, in fact there was a time when I had a palm pilot which I wished I could make call with. The Smart Phones are the answer to that hope from way beck then. I love having a functioning PC that also doubles as a Phone. Also as a fan of the Hitchhiker Guide to the Galaxy I am just waiting for the thumb button so I can travel  the galaxy.

To me, I think that it's important for some people to be able to connect with me if needed. The thing about phones these days is that the call you make these days is directly to the person you need to talk to. It used to be, not that long ago really, that you called a Land Line and hoped the person you wanted to talk to was there and available! Now, who you call, with cell phones, is only the person that you're calling! Things do seem to change quickly these days compared to say, 10 years ago!  I, myself, prefer to talk to somebody directly if I need something.  If I have to leave a message I can only hope that they will respond, but I know that it went to them and not someone else!  Oh, and by the way, I do not go online through a phone. I only return calls or answer calls with my cell phone. Everything else happens through my computer.

Not only a cell phone, but also a smart one...

Let us say: you are on your laptop, in the middle of a product launch rush;

then you realize you got no groceries/food, and you MUST go shopping.

Having a smartphone with you (with access to your email) could help you

gaining time if some last minute change should produce...

so you have the back-to-house trip to choose strategy to follow.

Just first that came to my mind.

I do a LOT of my work on my phone. I spend a lot of time out and about, so my phone allows me to carry on marketing and networking on the go. I rarely make calls on it, but spend a lot of time online.

There's a definite trend now towards mobile internet use, with about 55% of internet traffic coming from phones.

In fact, that is one of the reasons I'm promoting Mike Glaspie's latest and greatest program, which features a brandable mobile app and a 2x14 matrix...

I'm sure many of you will be aware which program I'm talking about, but I won't post the link here unless I'm asked...

The point being, anyway, that mobile internet marketing is already big and rapidly getting bigger.

I have not had a cell phone since I left media distribution, and conduct all my online business from my laptop.  Technology allows me to take my laptop wherever I go, but it is awkward.

I think it may be time to go shopping.  I have visions of fishing from our boat and taking care of business also.

You need to run and get a smart phone with a large screen. I take my phone every where... I'm posting to this thread with it now.

Well I never use my cell phone or landline and use email, messanger chat, ect to commuinicate. Before the internet I lived on the phone in the MLM days so was so pleased when the internet came along. I say horses for courses.

  • 1 month later...

The contract on my iPhone 5 ended last month and this week I received my iPhone 6s+ and am in the process of figuring it out.  Gosh I though my old iPhone was pretty sophisticated but this new one really takes the cake, and the thing is I know for a fact I don't know about all the functions yet.  By the looks of it I think it will be easier to use use with my IM biz due to the much bigger screen and added functionality but we will have to wait and see.

The old dream was to be able to work from home by way of your home computer or laptop, but now I suppose the dream is to be able to navigate an online business from your smartphone lol. Who knows where we'll be in another 10 years from now.

I like my two desktop computers.  Big keyboard and big screen.  I use my cell to keep in touch with the out-of-town grandkids and to get instant answers to various questions from Google.

It's necessary, but not for the purposes of the phone feature.

I believe that a smart device is necessary...that way you have

many helpful apps at your disposal.  If and whenever you need

to speak to someone, good ol' Skype with a reliable wi-fi

connection can help you get many things accomplished in biz.

It also depends to whom you are marketing.  Many seniors do not like smart phones.  On the other hand, There are a whole bunch of people who do not have a landline any more.  I think it's important to keep in mind the age group, the product and ease of use when you are doing your marketing.  But, in general, more and more people worldwide are using their smart phones to conduct business, so the answer is YES; using your smart phone is an important option in todays marketplace.
