It amazes me how many people fail to take a few extra seconds to make sure they are using the right personalization code in mailers. I do realize most people don't even read them, or care, since they are clicking for credits; but, not everyone is.

Why make this kind of first impression? Why even try to personalize?

If you don't care enough to do a little thing - why would someone trust you for something else?

It is like the people telling me how rich they are going to make me from a Wix site...

Or the person asking how to make money online with "Let me show you how to make 10K" in their signature...

Maybe I am just old and crotchety....just wanting someone to at least try to earn my business...

"I have vision and the whole world is wearing bifocals"

Mrclean0325 makes a good point when he says, "It amazes me how many people fail to take a few extra seconds to make sure they are using the right personalization code in mailers. I do realize most people don't even read them, or care, since they are clicking for credits; but, not everyone is. Why make this kind of first impression? I try to remember to re-read my posts and check for spelling and more importantly, to see if what I said makes any sense.  When we leave out a word here and there, it is sometimes difficult to get the real meaning of a phrase.  If first impressions are important to you, just take a minute to re-read your post before you hit that button.

I nearly made that mistake a minute ago here  Not concentrating in my rush.   Fortunately, I did quickly check :) And, yes, it has the opposite of the intended effect if a mistake is made with this, I agree

Is it just that people are typing the syntax incorrectly? Or is it that people are submitting ads on a site that then distributes the ads to other sites using different variations of the code?

Funny but so true.   :D

This also reminds me of the offline promotion techniques I see around town.  Why commit to ordering business cards or vehicle magnet signage when you're branding Gmail - and not yourself?

Some signage would even have a logo!  But a generic URL printed on the signage?  Why not commit to ordering a (branded) domain for your business?

These little things really do go a long way and it has nothing to do with your age, sir.  Its just wise business practice...I believe.

I think we've all made that mistake, but yes it is important to take those few extra seconds…

First impression is so important, that one mistake can cost you that one customer! :(

Very valid point raised. many times we are also in hurry to send mailers and yes small bit of precautions and/or personalisation of messages can do wonders

Or if you can't get it right, use a tool like Viral Mail Profits that inserts the correct name code for you.
