No Picture- No Sale

I am not a fan of most mail to thousands sites, click sites, surf to earn, etc.  I found Marketing checkpoint by accident but enjoy some of the discussions and learn from the posts.  I am one of those rare individuals who actually read the incoming advertisements that show up in my email box.

Most of these ads are in the same vein, advertising mailing sites, etc.  But one think I can tell the faceless advertisers is that there is NO WAY I would purchase anything from you if you are not willing to post your picture.

I think a lot of people come to these sites just to be able to advertise their programs, but I don't care if you are giving away a $thousand dollars$, I click off the site as soon as I see that your picture is missing.  With the technology that is present today, no picture means you must be either ashamed of the program you are promoting or you are hiding from something... either way I would not be interested in joining your program.

Just my .02 cents.

That's my real picture.  As far as using avatars; I'm a little ambivalent  about that.  I would love to see the persons real picture, but there may be circumstances that prevent the user from posting a picture.  For example, what if the member has severe burns or some other disfigurement.  THey may be hiding for a good reason.

How do we know that's your real picture or any pictures of them that they have posted on their sites?

Very good point. It's so easy to fake a pic.

Due to the effects of chemo I have chosen not to post mine. I consider it a favor to all that may happen to look at my ads - you're welcome :) I am sure there are others in my situation. I do not base purchase/join or not on that alone. But I think whatever is used it should be consistent so it is recognized.

I personally like to see a picture, it is worth a thousand words right? Avatars are OK from a branding perspective but I think most people like to see a picture. Yes, it doesn't mean the picture you are seeing is really the person or one they stole from another site. There are a LOT of marketers who use different names in different niches but do use their own picture. I have come across a few or the other person stole their picture.

The real question is: Does that make you trust them less?

Or does the fact you can see someones picture and get to know them from what they have online that also has their picture. Forums, social media, sites, and whatever else there is make you trust them more?

There are quite a few sites that have mystery owners as nobody really knows the person who runs them or what they look like. Then there are the publicity hounds who plaster their faces wherever they can.

It is an unfortunate part of the human psyche to want to connect a face to what they do. We remember faces faster than a name in most instances; liker we can talk to someone we know we have seen before and don't want to embarrass ourselves by asking their name again because we forgot.

Then you get into the argument of your picture will determine your conversions. If you aren't familiar with it, it goes like this - people may not like your race, color, sex, dress, makeup, hair color, hair style, etc. and will not buy from you because of those things. So just use an avatar and you are set to go right?

Just from this discussion it is obvious some people will not buy from you because you have an avatar.

In my opinion, it doesn't matter what you do - some people WILL NOT BUY FROM YOU! They can use whatever excuse they want, it is their excuse and they are welcome to it. If you try to please everyone, you will end up pleasing no one.

If people are scared away by my bald head, GREAT! They are not my audience. If people are scared away by my boldness, they are not my audience either. If people are scared away by my avatar, they are not my audience either. If people are scared away by my emails, they are not my audience either.

In the end, whether you have a picture or not really doesn't matter because someone will not like it and not buy from you for either option.

Well said.  Reminds me of my father.  He was bald.   When people would come into his drugstore and try to tease him about being bald, he would say:  "I figure God gave us a certain amount of hormones and I didn't want to waste mine growing hair"!   :)

If I like a program that I see and the timing is right, I'll join it irrespective of the sponsor. Unless I know that person to not deserve my sign up. That's why there's more chance of me not joining a program because of a pic than there is of me not joining it because a pic is absent. I admit also that I avoid signing up under "well known faces" who grow big downlines in traffic sites and probably wouldn't even notice my sign up. That's just me, trying to support those who are most likely to support me or who have already done so - picture or no picture.

My favorite is, "God only made so many perfect heads - the rest he covered with hair"

That's my story and I am sticking to it....

Some people may have a valid reason for not wanting their picture out there. Then again, there's nothing to stop them from posting "any" picture and claiming it to be a current version of themselves.  Of course, it does help to present an image of the person that you can relate to, whether it's an accurate image or not.  I don't think it's unrealistic to say that I'd be more likely to join a person in a business who I could match their words to a face.

As a person who gets very few sign up for sites, I like Clares take on not signing up for sites where she knows the person is a "heavy hitter", but it makes me wonder.....since I belong to so many sites, people are seeing my face a lot. I wonder if anyone thinks of me as a heavy hitter because that sure if far from being true! I just click my fingera to the bone for pennies.

There are many people that I know but will not mention are scams, misbehaviour and bad character,  have their pictures proudly shown and branded.  We cannot just simply  jump to conclusion  that people don't  show their real pictures are people that we cannot trust.  There are big companies that don't show their faces but still  people purchasing things from them and they are rich. They are many reasons why they don't show and people have their choices whether to be connected or not and need not to be preconcieved on their beings  that  we do not know..  Just a thought from me If you had been a victim of identity theft, will you and your family ever  proudly put up your pictures again?

I have to admit, when I started marketing online, I was one of those faceless profile pictures too. It took me a while to get comfortable sharing my pic. I really think, for marketing purposes, having some type of image is helpful. (Especially of you us the same image in all your marketing). I think that is how we start to recognize each other.

I don't think not having a profile picture has stopped me from buying a product online. However I do know that if you have a picture, and I "get to know you" it really increases the chances of me being a repeat buyer.

I agree. Pictures are important. You have all heard the phrase "A picture is worth a thousand words".  If that's true, and I believe in that concept, then I do not have to have a picture + 1000 words.  Waste of time.  Most marketers don't want to waste their time reading all the words.  Grab their attention with a picture and a few CHOICE WORDS and then send them to your website or your capture page.  You are excited about your new program and you have already sent your ad to your warm list of friends and associates and NOW you are advertising to strangers.  Most of your ads are going to strangers - you don't know what they like, what they're looking for or anything about them. So don't waste your time or theirs with minutia.  After the picture and a short summary, Send them directly to your website.  Let the website do the selling.  Your job is to sponsor - sponsor - sponsor - sponsor - sponsor - sponsor - sponsor - ....I could go on, but I have to go sponsor a few  B)
