Hi Fellow MC Members and Guests,

Tommie Kirkland (Captkirk) here...

I prefer the New viral mailers because they're credit based compared to the old safelists.

With the old safelists they required you to give a list email address and contact email address.

New Viral Mailers only (most) ask for one email address which is normally the email address that you will receive emails.

Anyway, Do You Prefer The Old Safelists or New Viral Mailers? - Why?

Honestly, haven't even used the old one so have no idea the difference, but i know you have to register for many for it to be worth promoting your offer/capture page....

"I prefer the New viral mailers because they're credit based compared to the old safelists."....

I have to say, this is the reason im moving on slowly from older safelists + new viral ones are more click responsive. Definitely a way to go.

This makes no sense. Safelists (new or old versions) have always been credit based, from the get go.

Safelist and Mailer is the very SAME thing anyway. I've owned them since year 2000, or before, and mostly known for that realm.

As for email addresses - Mine always ask for one email address from the start, so it is not nothing new at all.

Those who ask for a contact email (new or old), they really want to email you separate from the list mail (like admin updates or a push on something) and/or they sell "solo" ads (incorrect definition) to send an email to the contact emails.

Around 2009 they started to be more common to also be called mailers. In which I called and bought domain names for both words, as it is the SAME thing.

But then around 2010, a script started to be oversold to death and they called it viral mailer.

- They are an incorrect description as it is not viral.

Anyway, old safelists have always asked for one or two, and have always been credit based.

Some of the old safelists are/were a pain because not all the mails you receive are credit based. Members could send a credit mail and also a non credit email. Its been some time since I used those particular ones, but if I remember correctly, you didn't always know when an email did or didn't have a credit link until you opened it. The benefit though of contact email and list email safelists, is that you can have contact solos come to your main inbox, so you don't overlook them before their credit links expire because they're worth quite a lot in terms of credits.

The mailers that Maryanne talks of probably got that nick because they call themselves. "The Viral Mailer Script".

I like the script, and will actually open a mailer of my own soon with it, but there are some plugins that I will not be getting. Like the unclaimed credits mod that many of them have. I have concerns over how effective a mailer is, when members can open links from a tab in their member's area, seeing only the subject. In fact, there is a technique to grab a bunch of these links and open them with one click. Like that, I wonder if its more like a Traffic Exchange than a mailer. Sure its fast, and I can fly through a lot of "mails". My own clicking rate is much higher since

I agree and not sure why it was implemented this way. It should open the actual email with the content and then allow the viewer to proceed to the website, not just go directly to the website.. otherwise it is not really an email ad. My sites allow reading on the website and in digest emails, but always show the full email ad before continuing.

TE, mailer, safelist, etc....  Doesn't matter to me as long as they're growing.  I want new eyes looking at my ads.  If they become stagnant, I move on.

That is an old technique, from what I remember it would be too much (would make a browser stall or something like that)

Owning a safelist and making them live past a year, is not easy to do,.

I saw in a forum somewhere where it is 100's of those sites (the script we talk of here) have closed, way over 300 so far and saw some people posting some angry things about getting one and paying out 1000's in the end for it. Not sure why you would, now the cat is out of the bag.

Well I wouldn't claim that I'm flying through "mails" if they were freezing my browser

Anyway, that particular mod for unread mails isn't from the LFMVM people, it comes from Dan Moses. The LFMVM one requires that members at least view the email content along with the credit link.

About my own mailer. Well, I'm not sure how to respond, other than to say that I've been around since the very first one launched, and I've also seen a lot. But I've talked to some of the successful owners who have made it work and I'm confident that I know what I'm getting into, and that I know what I'm doing. The 1000s that people have paid out is for mods. The LFM folks are great sales people lol. There is no mod available for a good site admin though  :)

Hi Clare,

The unclaimed plugin should be the the first plugin that you get and it will be a huge mistake if you have a mailer without it.

Not having an unclaimed plugin is like opening a car dealership and charging for test drives while other dealership are offering FREE test drives. Guest what dealership I'm going to buy a car from? The dealership that offer the FREE test drive. :)

Maryanne Myers's Hot Spot Mailer give it's members the option to view the email (subject titles) in the members area or to receive emails. I receive the email in the members inbox.

If you have read in the various forums, I always mention that Hotspot is my favorite mailer! :)

I haven't discounted adding the means to read emails on my site. If you read my post previous to my last. It is the subject without the means to see any email body that I won't be adding. Or rather, what I mean is a plugin that lets members open "mails" in that way.

lol dan moses is part of that group, the launch manager was part of the spider web and advertises within that camp. But he didn't come up with that idea. It's very old, I had it almost 10 years or so ago and I didnt come up with that idea either. It's like banners, no one knows who came up with that idea.

Plus, alot of the game mods, save your money - those are free on the net. Bubble game and such - look it up in google.

But do what you want, I just have been astonished on how much people have invested in money and time into that world the past 5 years, for nothing

I have been a member for 8 years and Hot Spot Mailer has over 39,000+ members for those who are not aware of Hot Spot Mailer.

In fact, I'm the one who added Hot Spot Mailer to the "Program Threads" last year. :)

Being basic is a winner in my book. As the saying go:

I have seen both mailer types. I was never really sure if there was a difference in them. As has been mentioned above, someone stated there was no difference. To me, the term "viral mailer" seems like a play on words, suggesting viral advertising or similar.

From what I've heard, Dan is now "excluded" from opening more sites on this script

I appreciate your feedback and advice Maryanne, thank you :)

Wow , this is a great topic and I have enjoyed reading all your views. i have a different sort of question i would like to add. Do you guys think TE's get the members of the sites more traffic than the mailers?

There are times that I have sent out as many as 10,000 mailings and only received minimal views to my ads. Where when I use TE's I would get 10,000 visits for the 10,000 sent, per say.

How ever many sites I view I have that many views back to my sites. And for me, the TE's product sometimes more responsiveness than my mailings.

I think both are valuable tools is used the right way. I am a member of many of Maryanne's sites, Coach T's, and Darren's to name a few. And I am very happy with the results I get and the results I get correspond to how I use the sites. But I really think if more members who belong to our sites just really understood the effect referrals have have for both owners and members, they would push more to refer more and that would help our sites be more effective. Anyway, thanks for the topic. I never leave these discussions empty and appreciate the honesty showed here.

You all Stay Blessed.

Hi Michael,

You made a very good point, from what you wrote, it seem like we would get better results from TE's per our sites being viewed.

Viral Mailers and Traffic Exchanges both work if we work them. It's just our preference to to which one that we promote.

I love questions like this because they get me thinking :)  I am admin in a TE and as you may have read above will own a mailer soon. Results will vary very much depending on the the particular traffic sites you use. The busier ones with an active admin are better, and especially an active admin that is ensuring the promotion of their sites, to keep bringing in new members.

I find that i get more views from Traffic Exchanges, but that mailers convert better for me. But I like some TEs for branding and for the social aspect that some of them offer. Once people get to know you, they're more inclined to follow you. Squeeze pages and splash pages work best in TEs because in most, you have to capture the surfer's attention within just a few seconds, since an upgraded member is clicking through sites at a rate of 3 - 6 seconds depending, and most people have at least 5 TEs open side by side or are using traffic browser software to surf. Whereas in a mailer that presents or delivers its member emails properly to members, you get to use your subject and email content to pitch your offer. One mailer view in this condition is worth imo considerably more than a view in a TE. Plus in a mailer, each view per mailing will be unique, whereas in a TE your page will be shown much more often to each member. Except maybe in really big TEs where you'll get more unique views.

One credit = one view guaranteed in a TE (provided all that are surfing are human and the site is well maintained without bots). You're also earning credits when you surf, at a different rate to mailers. In a mailer, you're earning a lot more credits per link that you're clicking through.

You're smart to use both, because while there are people who are common to both, there are also some surfers who just never read emails and there are email readers who never surf TEs. The more people you can reach with your campaign the better.
