Muting Firefox as a browser (not just tabs)

I created a video showing how to mute the firefox browser, and also some insight into if you're an advertiser what you should be aware about this...

I use headphones so it's very low until I put them on for something special. That's also why as an advertiser on traffic exchanges, I don't autoplay them so visitors can be prepared before they click play (which is very few).

Most of the time I mute the sound unless I want to hear what is being played.

I've often got my headphones plugged into my phone, or I'm listening to music on speakers while I'm working on the laptop. The laptop speakers are normally left muted unless I want to watch a specific video or TV programme.

Yes  I mute sound, as you say the babble that occurs when multiple tab are open, especial in Safelists mode, can get a little overwhelming. I love the idea of the muter, and thanks for the video on how to set it up. I've done just that.

I use the muter add on or plugin whatever you want to call it for a couple of years now. I hear enough voices in my head lol. But while surfing if I see a video ad that peeks my interest I will stop and listen to it as I myself use video allot in my ads

First it is amazing what you can do when you log in and when you don't. I wanted to reply here but wasn't logged in, once I logged in the problem went away, check it.

 

Anyway I am trying the mute plug in and will bring back a report. Normally I listen to the radio while on the web and the stuff in the browser is very annoying. I do listen when something is interesting or when attending a webinar  otherwise I check it visually and then make my decision.

 

I know sound is important but I like it when it is important not as a space filler. Please leave sound in just make it more....

Sure would love it if I could listen to the music I have on my computer without having some obnoxious ad screaming at me in the middle of a great song!

I just mute the sound from a little speaker button I have on the bar at the bottom right hand bar (sorry - not very technical).

It has a slider scale to turn it up or down and a little button to turn it off altogether.

That mutes the sound for the entire computer system, but what I get from some of these comments, is they want to listen to music and the sound from surfing ads is all they want to eliminate. That's why they need a plugin to just mute the browser they are surfing with, them they can use another browser or app to play their music on the same computer.

Ah - thanks. I'm so "old-school" I just have a radio close by if I want sound - but actually I prefer the "sound of silence".

I, like joyhealey, prefer silence. I keep my computer muted when I am surfing multiple sites but turn up the volume when I am on a single site such as an online college course.
