BLOGGER or WORDPRESS?

Recommended Posts

I have tried both and found most people have answered; Wordpress.

I used wordpress for a while but at the end of the day stuck with blogger because I found it

a lot easier to use, redirect domain names and add templates etc.

What do you guys use, and why?

Regards,

Jonny

I'm trying, again, to put together a WordPress site.  I've tried before and just got too frustrated after a week or so that I moved on to another project .  I WILL figure it out this time! (that's what I'm telling myself anyway!)  ...   :)  ...

It can take some time to get the hang of Wordpress--but there are some really good video walk throughs on You Tube, Wordpress itself has well done tutorials, and I also have learned a lot going through the tutorials on wpbeginner.com. I've tried every blogging platform known to man king since the days of windows 3.0 and 56k dialup access, and I always end up back at Wordpress these days. I will say that using wordpress on a Wix premium site is a LOT easier than using it on the wordpress.org, though for the life of me I can't figure out why.

FYI, SiteRubix, like Wix premium, makes building a Wordpress site very easy. So if you're finding Wordpress on its own frustrating, try it through SiteRubix or Wix premium, the difference is really something.

Whichever you use, I would grab SEOPressor for your SEO, and Hotjar for your UE. Hotjar is one of the most amazing plug ins ever created.

I am not a big fan of WordPress myself. Way too much maintenance and they are slow to load in most cases. The security updates to keep them from being hacked and hoping the next update doesn't break all of your plugins or a plugin goes "rogue" and you have to figure out which one it is. Themes that break your plugins or plugins that break your themes and yadda, yadda.

I am old school and like to make just plain old HTML or HTML5 sites. No special software, just a text editor. Sure it can be a little more work initially, but I never have to worry about it having to backup databases and all the other stuff you need for a WordPress site. Once you have the template, it is pretty easy to make as many pages as you want with no more work than doing it in WordPress. and the sites load MUCH faster and are so much easier to backup.

All WordPress and all the others do it create an HTML page for the browser to read and make it "easy".

I am fairly handy with the old HTML, know nothing about HTML 5, though. Is there a good WYSIWYG editor around you can suggest that I could use to get back in practice with HTML, and hopefully figure out the 5.0? I'm almost ready to do the initial site build of my newest hare-brained scheme, and you have me thinking it might be a good idea (since I have the server capacity) to run 2 different versions in soft launch and see which provides the best UE, the Wordpress or the straight old school.....

Here is the one I use the most for making quick pages.

http://bestonlinehtmleditor.com/

The best part about HTML and HTML5 is you can make the whole site offline and check it before you even upload it anywhere. It is always so slow to try and get a new WordPress site working or need to make a site when you can't be online for some reason. It always SUCKS to accidentally screw something up on a live site too. It is also easier and quicker to see your changes than to wait for the caching plugin, server side caching, and whatever else may make you wait to see what the changes did.

If you want a program, Kompozer or Blue Griffon are good, but really haven't been updated for a while when I last checked. These will do HTML. You can get a good base and add HTML5 elements to the code afterwards if you like.

Here is one that does get update and works fairly well. http://arachnoid.com/arachnophilia/index.php

Here are these HTML5 Editors you can try.

I bought a program that creates a nice basic HTML5 site with nice effects a few years ago. It is online and is updated. I can use it for the basis of what I want to create by adding and tweaking once the basics are done. The sites end up being a few hundred K where a similar WordPress can consume nearly a Gig with plugins and the nasty habit it gets of caching a bunch of stuff as time goes on.

There are some new syntax for HTML5 that is pretty easy to get the hang of that makes it easier to do a webpage. There are plenty of free templates and boiler plates you can get and play around with. The REAL coolness with HTML5 is combining it with CSS3 to get some awesome effects. Still working on getting that one down. It beats the crap out of anything seen on WordPress so far.

if people are worried about their SEO, Google is looking for a fast loading mobile ready site. They get the higher marks and WordPress just isn't there yet without a LOT of custom tweaking most people have no ability to do on their own. Not to mention the added load on the server and extra disk space.

Have FUN playing with these! :)

Thanks! NEW TOYS!!!

Fortunes was just bought out of the box--and my hosting service babysits it, so if anything goes wrong with ANY part--even if I make an oopsie and screw it up--they fix it. For that I wanted as low maintenance on my end as possible, since it involves PhP, CSS, and Cpanel, and cron jobs and all that other fussy tech stuff that hurts my brain.....And that isn't a joke BTW. I am hopeless at those aspects of a website--I miss the good old days when a website was just HTML, without all this new nonsense LOL. But you gotta do what you gotta do, I guess.I'm not stupid--I'm good at learning languages of any kind, be it Latin or PhP. I'm simply ignorant, and I really don't have time to learn one or more actual programming languages--so I have to work with plug ins and scripts. And in many cases, they do 90% of what I want, but I can't find one that does the other 10%. Very annoying.

I intend on making the new site mobile friendly, actually. When it comes to my other half's site, his readers are the kind that use desktops and laptops, so the mobile friendly aspect wasn't critical, but the site adjusts itself for any device anyway--we tested it on every browser, Android phones and tablets, and apple phones and tablets and nobody found any issues.

It would be nice to get a fast loading functional site that didn't rely on 19 zillion scripts and plug ins again *sigh*....

Do some study into HTML5, CSS3, and javascript. You don't need any special software and can do just about anything with the combo. Things there just aren't plugins for WordPress. There are even a lot of nice simpler ways to get great effects in HTML5 by itself, especially with menus and such.

I am still learning some advanced HTML5. Nothing you would use in a 'normal" website. Really cool stuff with canvas. I am taking a course in javascript and will be taking one on CSS3 soon to get better at those. Not that I don't have enough to do! lol

I have also taken courses to brush up on my graphics arts. I do this for a few different reasons, first I love to learn new things, if I hire someone to do something - I can fix it myself or get it the exact way I want, and lastly I can offer my clients a few more things I don't have to refer them to someone else. In other words me keep more money! The graphics more so I can do my own covers MUCH quicker and make site and other graphics faster than farming them out.

A word of advice to anyone reading this: If you know how to do the simple things and know a bit of HTML - you can fix things yourself saving money and not having to wait for your "tech guru" to get back to you and then try to explain what the problem is. It is also FUN!

I'm a big fan of Wordpress. Blogger is part of google and they have had a reputation of deleting blogs due to content. From the things I have heard, it is arguable exactly what content was deleted. The nice thing about Wordpress is that it is customizable and has lots of great support and plug ins that can really help build traffic and readers.

I have blogs on both blogspot and wordpress. Wordpress is a security nightmare as well as being a pain to navigate.

I get over 1000 attempts a month from hackers trying to access my wordpress admin files so I don't even use it anymore.

Blogspot is easy to use and a lot less susceptible to hackers.

At least in my experience.

I just thought I would mention this: My host offers a site lock scan to prevent hackers from destroying my Wordpress site. I agree that Wordpress can be a security nightmare, but it can be dealt with. I would use caution when it came to some of the security plug ins that claim to do it all. My hosting company has done a great deal to help me deal with this issue.

I too use both Blogger and Wordpress, but unless you upgrade and pay for hosting you can't use Wordpress plugins

As to security I have Jetpack installed and get frequent messages that my Worpress site is down, but usually comes back agian fairly quickly

I have Never had any down times or security issues with Blogger, but that might be because I don't update very often on my blogger blogs

Actually I started blogging through MySpace, although not sure they called it blogging then, I continued updating there until they altered to a music platform and recommended using Wordpress for blogging

I definitely use Wordpress - and love it!

It certainly isn't as newbie friendly like Blogger, but as for the professional looking website I would give the advantage to Wordpress.

It better be a self-hosted website used in conjunction with Wordpress.  Otherwise, they tend to be super strenuous with affiliate marketers.

Blogger is great for ease of use

Wordpress on your own domain is awesome if you want to control every aspect and like to use a variety of available plugins.

However, the security problems do have me considering going back to html... the only reason I haven't is that I have invested a lot of time and money to get the themes and plugins.  :P

wordpress for me. since it can be self-hosted, opensource, it's self-updates and more frequently nowadays, comes with lots of themes, plugins and widgets if you want your blog like to display all the bells and whistles to the more simpler black on white blog you can do it with wordpress. the only pros with blogger/blogspot is that it's owned by google and as you can see seo-wise, wordpress is quite a competitor for blogspot.

My Case is quite similar with my  answer I used to use Blogger When I have Started Learning Digital Marketing ...But Gradually I Started To WordPress.
