Do Splash Pages Really Work? Or Do People Just Think That They Work?

I have directly signed up large downlines without ever using Splash pages.

 

Frankly, I think that splash pages are overrated. In fact, I felt that way when I first heard about them when they first came out. I don't think they do a thing for me getting signups.

 

I was making direct sales on Traffic Exchanges using just the sales pages when everyone was talking about using Splash Pages. Who idea was that anyway? Another fake Guru idea that everybody bought except for me?

Hard to say Tommie. Some sites show which page the signup comes from. I think because most mailers now let you read on site without showing your actual ad along with it having a splash page to peak someone interest without bombarding them with all the info on the main page might be better. A dynamite email subject helps the most I think.

This goes back to the "Long copy vs Short copy" debate. Everyone says they HATE long sales pages, yet this is where the majority of the sales come from in study after study through all industries. The caveat is the sales page HAS have a good headline, be good, and convert. A splash page is just a bigger banner ad. Though most people try to put on a splash page everything in their long copy and it is a mess usually. I believe people use them because they can't write copy that coverts.

 

They do have their uses though. If you sales page doesn't load fast, you can use a splash to get people to it with a catchy headline when using a TE (I have done this before). They are also good for "sorting" in cold traffic. Like if you have an acne product and have a splash that says, "Do you have acne and looking for a solution?". People that have acne and looking for a solution will click, the rest not so much. This is good if you have a diverse traffic source to dig out the gems. Or if you put a splash with " Do you live in Northeastern USA", people who live their will click which is also good for local lead generation. You can put a bit more info on them than a banner which is the purpose. With all these bigger banners out, when does a banner become a splash page and visa versa?

 

They are not worthless, but another tool in your marketing arsenal. Unfortunately, some people still use a hammer to put in a screw...

If the goal is to get people to click on your site, then you have to get their attention. Even people who are just clicking for credits will stop and read something that is interesting to them if it grabs their attention.  How much attention span do people have?  We're all different, but in general it's pretty short.  So, if you only have a short time to make your case, that means a catchy subject line, followed by an attention-getting visual aid.  That's where the splash page comes in handy.  You may or may not have one more chance to get them to explore your site  a little further and that would be a short video presentation.

I mostly use them if I'm promoting a site with a php script in a frame which removes my affiliate link and simply promotes the generic program page. I suspect a lot of people promoting affiliate links in traffic exchanges and the like don't realise that it's not actually their affiliate page which is being displayed and so wonder why they're not getting referrals - you need a splash page (or better still a squeeze page) which will open your affiliate link in a new window.

I think splash pages do have a useful function at traffic exchanges, but not many other places. However...

 

1- You must stand out from everyone else by having your own unique page. If you are just using the same replicated splash page everyone else is using you won't see much of a response.

 

2- You must capture attention (without being outrageous). Remember most viewers will only see your page from 3-10 seconds.

 

3- You must have have a simple and direct, but VERY enticing call to action. The idea is to get them to click through to your real offer.

Yes, splash pages stand a better chance of captivating the attention of viewers and chances are you will get referrals faster, rather than just promoting the program's main page. A splash page highlights all the main features of a particular program and a member is able to decide whether he or she wants to join it or not.

A lot of mailers allow you to read on site so most viewers don't even see your email ad. And most allow viewing multiple ads on tabs that even your email subject is lost by the time they get to your landing page. All you really have is your landing page to get their attention much like a Traffic Exchange so being unique is important but not overloading the viewer with too much info. Just get their interest enough to click the link opening in a new window.

but when i use splash pages i make sure i combine it with capture page with subscription box that gets their email address, but when combined it with a link, i find it on my case, that they raraly click, i just deliver direct traffic to the link. and besides nowadays site owners knows this already so they design their website as fast as possible and on affiliate tools they give you a ready-made splash pages as they say just add traffic to it.
