Is there a way to block a website?

I need help!   I was surfing on the 4th day of the relaunch party with trafficdreamers when suddenly my page was taken over by stupid.com.  I tried clicking the back button going way back to no avail.

I tried opening a new window to start again, still automatically goes to stupid.com.

No matter how I get in...banner, search result etc, it immediately switches to stupid.com.

I have ran my McAfee as well as Malwarebytes.  I've tried then shutting down my computer...all to no avail to stop it.

I've had other check and they can get in to trafficdreamers just fine.  However, I did have one person who contacted me saying they tried to use my referral link to sign up and the page said "referral to be assigned".  So she didn't go ahead and sign up.

So, is there any way for me to block this site from ever opening to see if that will help?  I first see the trafficdreamers url for a split second before it changes.

I'm using Windows 10. (I think) and I use the chrome browser. (yes, just to try, I opened firefox and IE as well and I am still getting stupid.com in those browsers too)

Any help will sure be appreciated.

Thanks!

Marsha

Hi Marsha,  this doesn't sound like a browser issue where deleting cookies/history will necessarily help.

You might try loading your computer into Safe Mode to see if the problem is replicated when minimum

files are loaded.  This article from PC World covers doing just that and how to remove found malware.

Also try downloading a free malware scanner such as Kaspersky.  Kaspersky Lab is very reliable.  You want

to try a different malware scanner in case the malware has compromised your existing programs.

Good luck finding and removing this culprit.

You may want to try to clear your DNS cache.

Just open the command prompt on Windows. (Run > cmd)

Enter the following command: ipconfig /flusdns

If it runs smoothly you will see the following message:

"Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache."

Then open your browser and try to access the site again.

It is strange that the same issue is happening on your tablets too.

I don't understand why others can get to trafficdreamers just fine. I find it strange that it's happening on my tablets too.  That tells me that maybe indeed it isn't something that is in my computer afteralll.

I just thought there was some way to go in and put a site in that you want blocked.

Thank you Anderson for how to flush the dns as that is something I've never known how to do either.

Marsha, I did send a ticket to admin there, but no reply yet.

You could try to block the website by editing your Hosts File in Windows. I did this to stop the mailer Boxes of Traffic when it kept redirecting me to some junk sites.

Only thing is, that I'm not technical enough to know exactly what you would put there in this case. If someone could help with that. We may have your solution.

In the meanwhile here's an explanation on editing the host file:

I am a little confused on this, is it your affiliate link that is redirecting or the main page? There are malware that will redirect you on a single computer but having all devices on your network do it requires a pretty sophisticated malware that seems unlikely in this case as it would also do other nasty things on other sites too. If it is just a problem with the affiliate link, it is possible someone hacked it and injected a redirect code. I would suggest running Spybot search and destroy or malwarebytes (or both to eliminate the possibility of malware. The rest is up to the site owner to fix if it is not on your computer or network.

If multiple pc's are having this problem then it could very well be a router problem.

One question, did you use the same browser on all your pc's and is that browser synched?  That may

answer why all the devices redirected.

I would try using multiple browsers, and if all the devices redirect using different browsers then I would

look at a router malware problem.  A router malware Google search will help; this article seems to be a good start.

no, not my referral link, although it goes to stupid.com when I click on my referral link.  It does it no matter how I try to get in to the site.

I've ran malwarebytes to no avail.

She's not finding your account in the database at all Marsha. I'll try to follow up with her, but she seems as confused as we are.

That is very strange. 5653 is my number....she can't find that I even had an account?

I hope she can fix it.....I did get two referrals from the team that I wouldn't want to lose.

Marsha, could you reboot your modem and then try to access the site from any of your devices?

I can think of a possibility why this is happening ...

Unless your IP is not static, rebooting should resolve the issue (if that is what I think it is).

I don't have a clue what a stqtis IP is. Our electricity has been out since this started happening so the modem was reset that way.

I use firefox on one tablet, but I get stupid.com in all the browsers on my laptop too.

Hi,

If this issue is happening on all your devices than the problem is with your modem.

The following will explain how to check for and fix the problem as well as making sure it doesn't happen again.

If you have questions please include the make and model # of your router in your post.

Good luck.

Recently I noticed that   unwanted sites taking over our surfing.sites is rampant.  Yes its hard to push them away.  And in this case  there is no way to report. What I did is get its  url  link and sent  support  about the link. When I see any unwanted site coming in I will delete it and log in again to my favorite surf.
