Where do you publish & how often?

Everyone has heard "Content is King". More content is published every day than was published in an entire year not long ago. As a content publisher, it's not just about writing content, but writing quality content that delivers value.

 

Maybe you publish in one or more of the following:

  • Personal blog (own domain & hosting)
  • Hosted blog (such as Wordpress.com)
  • Ezine databases
  • Article submission networks
  • Guest writing/blogging
  • Email newsletters
  • Membership sites
  • Forums

What works for you? Where do you publish? And, how often?

Hustle. Do everything in your power to reach beyond your goals.

To keep followers coming back to your site for more and to get traffic to your site, you should be publishing at least once a week, in my opinion!

Mine publishing schedule is not quite regular, as I put first the quality of the content...

 

I prefer to let "mature" some idea 24 hours and writing some versions of the text (yes, pen and pencil work) 

before publishing online.

 

When I get some 'special' feedback, I an bl**dy sure I hit some... then just rinse and repeat:

blog post + article + slideshare + pdf...

I agree with xiqual - quality is more important. Rather just post 2-3 posts in a month if they are every green and high quality
people will share the blog posts and you will get thousands of visitors over the months and years to come.

 

Having said that - it makes actually sense like with an autoresponder to pre-write blog posts and then schedule them to be

posted daily or every few days if you want to have the benefit of search engines sending you natural traffic along.

 

One helpful insight is to keep blog posts evergreen and not so much focussed on an event in time that it makes a blog

post being outdated just a few days or weeks later. The more evergreen the better - it also helps in prescheduling blog posts
and makes them look more natural - nobody will know you wrote that blog post 3 weeks ago that way,...

 

... as long you provide real value on those blog posts.

If you have more then one place to publish content, such as, your blog, Linkedin, google+, etc., would it be appropriate to present the same article? 

Or, is it necessary to have several different articles for each place. 

 

In reality, you can publish the same article in most of those locations...but context is key. The audience you are publishing to within LinkedIn is going to be different than Google+; people, demographic, and mentality.

 

For example, you might have many cross-connections between Google+ and LinkedIn, and that's normal. It is 99.9999999999% likely you don't have the exact same audience between the two platforms. But, additionally, how you talk/share/read/communicate on LinkedIn is different than Twitter, Youtube, and your Blog.

 

Let's say you write a blog article about your latest fishing trip where you met an entrepreneur who taught you her 4 breakthrough changes helping her to double the size of her business. Obviously what you learned could help others, but the audience you reach on Twitter is going to be different than LinkedIn. Here's what you might do (just as basics) to differentiate with effectiveness:

 

Twitter post: "I KNOW you're busy but spare 6 minutes; what I learned on my recent trip will help you have breakthroughs, too. (link)"

LinkedIn post: "Hey Entrepreneurs! You'll really appreciate the advice from a successful business woman I met...while fishing. She shared her incredible success breakthroughs and I'm paying it forward - take a quick read. (link)"

 

The purpose above is to illustrate that you don't want to just cut and paste the same message from one platform to another. Yes, it's easy, but your audience might not understand the context behind your message. You're likely connected with business professionals on LinkedIn, while on Twitter you could have teenagers who are not entrepreneurs.

Hustle. Do everything in your power to reach beyond your goals.

I agree that the content one posts to their blog is very important if not the most important part of keeping viewers interest. To gain more and more subscriptions you must be able to share fresh topics that are compelling to a broad spectrum of people. This is just my opinion of course but the ads on your blog should be kept to a minimum so that it does not appear that is the main intent which diminishes interest of the viewer!

I am considering starting a blog soon, and all these comments are very helpful. I want to start a conversation and really engage with my audience. The content is so important and then the frequency I choose, I need to be consistent. Once I establish my blog, I do want to do guest blogging as well.

As a result of having many gmail accounts I also have many Blogger accounts. Blogger as the name indicates is a blog platform. Here is the question I am posing, should I activate all of them and use them regularly or just use a few. My thoughts at this time it to  activate all of them and rotate through them on a regular basis. As a result I would use all of them and be present more in the web than I currently am. The only recommendation I have so far is to not post the same thing to all of them at the same time with the same article because gmail would probably see that as spam. I am seeking suggestions.

Food for thought, Blogger is famous for terminating marketers blogs for trying to make money with a Blogger blog, so I don't want to waste much time with something that may be gone tomorrow. That's why I keep a very low profile with Blogger and only use it so when I comment on other Blogger blogs, I can attract people to my real blog. Blogger does allow us to have a non-referral link in the sidebar.

 

The real question is, why use Blogger when your own domain and quality hosting can be had for $1.33 a month?

I really appreciate your comments. At this time I still am not sure whether or not I will activate all the Blogger Blogs. I have them all set to follow my main Blog which I like you use regularly. The interesting thing as I was visiting each of these which are available I kept seeing promos fro Google to turn these into money making machines. Of course Google is promoting their own money making tools over Amazon, JVZoo, etc.... I think this might be why your Blogger Blogs ran into problems. You are most welcome, glad I could contribute. I agree that was probably my problem with Google, but I no longer see it as a problem at all. My results from my first attempt to make money with Google AdSense were so dismal I have no further interest in that. Even after I did finally make it to the $100 minimum, they terminated my account and kept the money, so I don't miss them.

Wow that is cold of them. They claim they want us to be successful and they want to help then they turn around and block any progress you seem to be making and then they stiff you. That is like stealing from you. I have had similar problems else where and it can be very discouraging. I am learning to just hang in there and keep on going.

Content is king and I publish on my blogs but Also finding the best way to syndicate is one of my questions.  Currently I post on Facebook, which automatically posts on Twitter I also post on Twitter using the twitter jukebox.  I have also used social monkee and have been know to use spinwriter through Social monkee to change my blogs so they can be distributed on a number of different places.

 

So where do find the best places to syndicate your blogs is and where do you gain the most readers from?

Back in the day I was a big time article marketer and had articles distributed at hundreds of places because back then it worked and you could get your article ranked on the first page of Google in sometimes hours! Those were the good ol days, but the biggest drawaback to that strategy was that I wasn't building my "real estate" consistently - my own blog. And yep, I've paid the price for that.

 

Today, I post 99.9% on my blog. I then syndicate snippets of those posts on such sites like Scoop It, Viral Content Buzz, etc...

 

When I write an original article, it's strategically placed on sites that have shown to be in Google's good side (that can change any minute tho) because I"m seeing them on the first page of Google.

 

Another thing I've done, although to no big extent is guest blogging. I highly recommend that to help you build your brand and get traffic back to your site.

In my experience - don't bother with anything to do with MMO on a "free" platform. On a lot of them posting any affiliate link is against the TOS and you are toast. Even if they THINK it is an affiliate link. If they don't like your content - you are toast. Basically for any reason you might not think is bad, they can terminate you. Everything is gone at that point.

 

Even with Facebook, a lot of people rely on their groups and fan pages. Most don't realize Facebook can, and has, taken over ones that get a lot of traffic and they are out in the cold.

 

Remember, you are "cyber-squatting" on their property and they control it and can change it at any time.

 

On the customer side, I have a hard time believing the free Wix, Weebly, Blogger, or other free sites telling me how much money they can make me or they make when they can't even afford a website with real hosting. You also see them disappear pretty quick on the safelists and TEs when they get too much traffic... :rolleyes:

Hey Matt I find most blogs are just dribble and no use full information and maybe some have entertainment value.  I personal think the time devoted to blogs could be spent better else where marketing wise.

My motto: Write Daily. Keep everything. Let Posting take care of itself.

 

1. Write daily. Every day, without fail, I write up and save anywhere from 2-5 "things"--poems, sales letters, articles, short stories, it doesn't matter what. Like old school pen and paper writers, I keep "the trunk" full. That way, when I need something fast, or inspiration, or an idea has marinated long enough, it's there. All writers have a trunk--mine just happens to be a 2TB external hard drive, with full double encryption :-). I even keep the journal in there.

 

2. I keep EVERYTHING. Because I have been writing 37 years now, off and on--and I have used things I wrote 2 decades ago probably a dozen times in the last few years, when filling orders for clients. Before computers, I had speckled composition books filled with observations, thoughts, aphorisms, and useless trivia (and I still have those notebooks, BTW).  You never know when something will come in handy, or fit beautifully with that crazy idea you had 5 years ago, or be the answer to a plothole that has been annoying you for years. So save it all. Digital storage is cheap.

 

3. When I get the new site operational, in the beginning I will be posting regularly--but it won't be "me" all the time, per se. I already have about 50 evergreen articles in my chosen niche stored away, that can be optimized seven ways to Sunday for a huge variety of keywords. Those will be set up to autopost once a week. "I" will be writing in between, as and if needed--but mostly promoting the site through posting on social media, disqus, Reddit, and everywhere else, and engaging members in the comment and forum sections.

 

In my experience, your readers will let you know how often you need to post-- if, for instance, your readers fully engage your content with comments, observations, and questions, you can use their feedback to decide what to write next and how quickly to deliver it. My M.O. is usually to under-promise and over-deliver, so people stay very happy. Ideally, you want your readers actively suggesting new topics, and actively asking you when your next post will be live. But it can take a while to get there :-). 

 

At the least, once a month. Preferred, once a week (with no direct duplication multiple places, take the extra ten minutes to manually "spin" your content. simply re-posting the same article everywhere looks bad). Ideally, once a week posting, the rest of the week engaging commentators on your own site and elsewhere while the next masterpiece is patiently waiting to be autoposted LOL.
