Identify WHO to Market to

Recommended Posts

For any small business, it is important to determine precisely who you will be marketing your services or products to. An efficient business should not waste time or money trying to market to everyone.

You must choose a target market that is potentially the best prospect for your business.

There are many small business owners who will resist focusing on one primary group of clients. They feel that their business should be promoted to everyone. They are convinced that in order to grow their business, they need to market to more people.

In fact the opposite is true. By narrowing the focus to a specific group of customers, it is possible to become an expert in solving their specific problems. Familiarity with their needs allows development of additional products and services to serve them better.

You can decide who to market to by following these 5 tips:

1) Think about the type of people who can MOST benefit from what you have to offer.

2) Think about who you would most enjoy helping, or working with.

3) Think about the type of people who will be easiest to reach, AND who will be most receptive to what you are selling. These will be people who KNOW they have THE problem you can solve and are LOOKING for a solution.

4) Know that just because you select a particular group of people to focus your marketing on, does NOT mean you can't help others who may come to you. It only means you're going to focus your proactive marketing efforts on the target group you select.

5) Don't over-think it. Pick a group you feel you can really help and proceed with the development of your marketing plan. Marketing is a fluid process. The important thing is to start. You can always refine your audience and your plan later as you learn more.

Very good points.  Personally finding micro niches have helped my business grown. Defining what peoples problems are and creating products and answers to their issues.  I find this more targeted and specific.  I do find that in general online you can get mixed up with so many types of niches, list building, traffic, email markeing, seo, etc that once people start building lists they send anything to these people.  The comms need to be very targeted and focussed on what you can provide in answer to thier problems.  Cool posts by the way, love reading these.

The best thing you can do is give a Google search with a KEYWORD relevant to your subject -  whom to market product name or service.

You would find quiet a number of relevant information on google search.  It could be forums or business social media platforms or websites.  Check out those professional platforms relevant to your google search and I'm sure you would find the required information.

Cool ideas. I do find and it s apersonal comment that this method really takes its time in content markeing.  But saying that with keyowrd research into ggoglw Quora is a great site to get your views out there and ranking into google for keywords.  If you use ChatGPT you can then rank for optimized SEO. :-)

Yes I agree with this but it goes a little beyond that not only do you need to decide who your customer is but you also need to find out

where they are online.

Today its a little simplified because there are a lot of places which are within social media where people meet in groups.

Once you find your target market a good way to find people to work with is to find people with questions, help them out

and answer the questions to gain credibility and then you can maybe befriend them.

You don't have to be an expert the answers are everywhere.  Just give it a good google search
