cristinz
I went to sign up at a couple of sites today that insisted that I use a G Mail email address. They actually wouldn't let me sign up if I didn't. What is the deal with that? It seems downright stupid. First off, every other TE, mailer etc. manages to successfully send me email to my regular account. So why try to insist that this email address is not acceptable? It's just rude. Second, I only use G Mail as a junk email account. So will read the sign-up email to click the link to verify the account, but that is the last email that I will ever read from your program. So if your goal was to make sure I never read another email from you for the rest of my life, well done - mission accomplished.
Allen Tan
Agree with you. I use gmail for verification but not for reading emails.
market101
I understand the concept of using gmail just for signing up and deleting. I also know that many other ISPs have very sensitive spam controls and many of your emails get sent to the spam folder. Over time gmail has become the email of choice. It's easy to have multiple accounts. It's also easy to delete thousands of emails with one click, if that is your goal. But, it is also the main email for millions of people all over the world. If your goal is to reach as many people as you can, gmail must be part of the mix. Quote *************************************************************There are two ways to face the future. Clare Bowen
I was always under the impression that mailers insist on gmail because its the most reliable free email account for delivery. That if all members are using it to receive emails, it will reduce the bounce rate. Not sure why TEs would insist on it though
cristinz
Clare - I'm not sure either. TEs that say 'gmail preferred' I understand. TEs that mandate it I don't. I can understand that gmail messages gets delivered, but surely making sure the emails are read is more important. And in the LFMTE script if the email bounces the account gets locked until a new email address is confirmed. So if my email address bounces I'm going to get locked out of my account until I fix it. Clare Bowen
That's a good point, and now I'm also curious. A forgotten email address that is subscribed to a lot of mailers is likely to get full eventually anyway and bounce incoming mails. I know that in the past, other non LFMVM mailers have bribed members with extra credits to change their email to gmail though. There is one TE that I belong to that sends me a bounce test email every 3 days or so. I know they want me to white list them, and I guess I should do that, but its annoying nonetheless
WizAbilities
I sometimes find that people using other service than Gmail, sometimes have issues receiving their activation emails. Therefore Gmail is always more favorable as far as delivery… Apart from that I can't offer any more than what has already been written . Guest mrclean0325
It is rather draconian to force someone to use a certain email service just to join their site. I do have to ask myself why these sites are blocked in the other services and if this will cause problems even marketing their stuff. "Everyone" doesn't always have a Gmail account (contrary to popular opinion) so will even trying to send ads to other email services work or be a waste of time, effort, and money? I am sure there are people who will just click away if they don't have a Gmail account or don't want to use it since they have an already established business email they use which is not a Gmail account. Does make you wonder....

captkirk
Please, no one should be using Yahoo given their past and recent record of security issues. I used Yahoo mail for all of the programs that I joined until I stop receiving confirmation email to programs that I joined. Now, I use Gmail and would recommend Gmail to anyone and everyone! I'm assuming that most marketers use Gmail... Quote Tommie Kirkland (Captkirk) Here... SUBMIT ADS 4 FREE - I SIGNED-UP 433+ MEMBERS SINCE JUNE 29, 2022 - 100% FREE! Clare Bowen
I started using gmail from very early on in my marketing. The first "mailing sites" that I used where Text Ad Exchanges, quite some years ago, and I think they were already stipulating gmail then.So I signed up for all TEs as well with gmail.I guess its a bit like some sites recommend that you don't put links in your email ads, or even dollar signs, while other sites outright ban the same. captkirk
I started using gmail from very early on in my marketing. Yep, I would advise ALL new and veteran marketers to use Gmail for all their Money Making Sites so that you receive your confirmation links from the programs that you join. If you join a lot of programs (Money Making Sites) like I do it's a MUST that you use Gmail to get your confirmation emails! . Quote Tommie Kirkland (Captkirk) Here... Would you believe that I had over 300+ members that never verified their membership? Yep, they never got them because they were using Yahoo, Aol, Hotmail and other email providers... So why does that result on insisting that everyone use Gmail? If I want to sign up and the email address I use doesn't work, then isn't that my problem? I will have to try again. You might recommend Gmail, then if I don't use it and I don't get the confirmation email then that's my fault. Also, even if all 300+ potential members didn't verify because they didn't get the welcome email (and not for some other reason), how do you know you didn't miss out on the same number of sign ups by insisting on Gmail? Clare Bowen
Yes, it maybe shouldn't be compulsory, but rather recommended with a short but clear explanation of why. I liked very much this word, draconian It is rather draconian to force someone to use a certain email service just to join their site. AdsTrek
As a Gmail user, the requirement to use Gmail on some sites has not bothered me. If those same sites insisted I use another Email, I would avoid those sites. I think a site loses out by insisting on the use of any specific contact email. Maryanne Myers -Webstars2K
It's not because it makes the database look pretty with a list of gmail addresses listed. It costs an enormous amount of server juice to send email to a bunch of these: yahoo, hotmail, msn, live.com, gmx, avg?, yandex, comcast, aol, and many many others that like to get you to signup to sell to you (it's not some favor).... but then block your emails without you know it.I even signed agreements with hotmail to allow email ads, but nooooooooooo they allow it for a couple days and then they still do it.On the owner side, it bounces back to us. Repeatedly into the hundreds or so, and it keeps trying to email those again and again. Using more server juice. Then we go buy an even more expensive server, just to handle it. I think its now to the point they NEVER let the emails though unless you send like, 50 a month. Why should we keep spending more and more money (into the 100's a month) because of people not wanting to use an email address that doesnt torment the server and monthly bill? I am very close on insisting the use of gmail on my sites because I already pay over 500 a month and not willing to pay more just to accommadate the use of these free email boxes doing this underhanded stuff.
