I understand the concept of using gmail just for signing up and deleting. I also know that many other ISPs have very sensitive spam controls and many of your emails get sent to the spam folder. Over time gmail has become the email of choice. It's easy to have multiple accounts. It's also easy to delete thousands of emails with one click, if that is your goal. But, it is also the main email for millions of people all over the world. If your goal is to reach as many people as you can, gmail must be part of the mix.

I am a clickbank member, but I don't like it. It is very difficult for new members to understand their format. One would think that after all the years they have been in business they could have found ways to make it simpler for newbies.

In this fast-paced internet world we are all bombarded with 1000s of ads, to the point where we become desensitized to the message. Most of us are only glancing at subjects for 1-2 seconds and if we do open the ad we look for a few seconds more and move on. So, we have seen many suggestions that people need to be exposed to your ad at least 9 times before they click. If you have shown your ad to what ever group for 9 times (or what ever your magic number is) and you are not getting any hits, how often do you change your subject line and/or your entire ad?

All good ideas. But, I have one suggestion that has something to do with retention. Getting a list, whether or not you use autoresponders, is one thing. Retaining membership is another. I have a list that has taken several years to build. I promise the people on my list that I will not bombard them with emails. I send out 1 email per month and they can cancel their membership at any time. My retention rate is phenomenal. When people join me in affiliate programs, I have no control over how often the admin of that program will send info to them. But, I have total control over how often I send info to encourage and or teach. Think about it.

Mrclean0325 makes a good point when he says, "It amazes me how many people fail to take a few extra seconds to make sure they are using the right personalization code in mailers. I do realize most people don't even read them, or care, since they are clicking for credits; but, not everyone is. Why make this kind of first impression? Why even try to personalize? If you don't care enough to do a little thing - why would someone trust you for something else?" I try to remember to re-read my posts and check for spelling and more importantly, to see if what I said makes any sense. When we leave out a word here and there, it is sometimes difficult to get the real meaning of a phrase. If first impressions are important to you, just take a minute to re-read your post before you hit that button.

Every so often you say something, even if by accident, that rings true. Something that can effect your life as well as others. Many years ago, while I was matriculating through a psychiatric course (no, I was not a patient), I coined the following phrase. "Emotions Are Stronger Than Intellect" [ Jerry Levine] Even though when I said that I was referring to people who were having emotional challenges, if you think about, you might see the connection to marketing. I believe our emotions play a huge role in what we buy, sell, read, eat, etc. In other words, emotions play a huge role in life. You may believe that your intellect plays a larger role. What are the implications if you are wrong?

That term has been in the news so much lately and I was just reading someone's ad where they used the word "urgent". Since they were trying to sell something they used the word "urgent" to get me to act now and buy from them. I get that. But, it bothers me. The word "urgent" is a very powerful word. I think it should be used in grave situations, e.g. you come across someone passed out on the street and they have a weak pulse. So, if I was the one who came across this individual, I would think it was urgent to call 911 right away. Does this bother anyone else? Maybe instead of WORDS MATTER I should have called this PET PEEVES

As I see it --- We need to be realistic. Most people do not have the know-how, time, or money to start a new program. If you are sophisticated enough, or know people who you can partner with, you have a chance to succeed on your own. But, for most of us, we are looking for ways to promote either our own little web sites or the web sites of affiliate programs that we like. So, for these people; you need to know how and where to advertise and how to build a list, if you are so inclined. There is a short synopsis on this blog sit. http://sensible-marketing.blogspot.com/

Do You think a cell phone is a nescessity for business?
market101 replied to Phyllis Wolfe's topic in Social Media
It depends who you are dealing with. Many seniors still have a landline and turn their cell phones off when they are home and when they leave the house, part of the time they forget to take their phones with them But, if you call their landline and they are not at home, most older folks have an answering machine. When dealing with everyone else, they all have cell phones. That's a given now-a-days.
