The extremely sad fact is, yes - if these type of headlines didn't work for the spammers they wouldn't use them. Another unfortunate fact is it seems the spammers take their "craft" more seriously than most marketers do. It is also the lottery mentality most people have. The people who open these are the same people who think they are going to win the Powerball, find a lost treasure laying on the ground, a bag of cash on the road, and people who will randomly send them a huge pile of money by mistake. I have read some real horror stories about people who got sucked in and lost it all. A few of them even lost their lives by following through and actually going to these countries. There was a scam exposing site dedicated to this topic some years ago. A number of these stories were from news papers and such that talked about how people either never came back or were later found dead. I think there may even be some of these stories on Youtube.
