Classified ads work well if you can keep your ad near the top. If it's on page 10 no one will see it.

There are lots of places where you can advertise for free, but free advertising is not as effective as paid advertising. I use both free and paid ads. One of the best no-cost ad site I use and can highly recommend is called Adcardz.

Obviously, giving something away that's useful  that's a way to get attention, particularly if you are trying to build an audience when you don't have a huge marketing budget. I believe the secret is to make the free offer useful and not just a means to market a business.
